Yoga for Healthy Aging: Yoga Tools to Keep Your Blood Pressure Balanced

WELLNESS YOGA

High blood pressure is also known as ‘the silent killer,’ because many people don’t even know they have high blood pressure, and only discover it when it’s too late. Unregulated, high blood pressure puts us a higher risk for stroke, heart attack, kidney issues and eye problems.

New guidelines on how to diagnose and treat high blood pressure has changed the thresholds for what is considered high blood pressure. As a result, almost one in two Americans, or 130 million people, are expected to be diagnosed with high blood pressure.

The new guidelines also put increased focus on diet and exercise emphasizing the critical importance of physical activity and nutrition for both preventing and treating high blood pressure. The guidelines were based on a review of more than 900 studies on high blood pressure.

In this online course, Dr. Baxter Bell will discuss the new guidelines, and explain why maintaining normal blood pressure is such an essential part of healthy aging. Yoga can be a great tool for preventing high blood pressure from ever developing. Even if high blood pressure has already developed, yoga can be an essential tool for regulating high blood pressure, because it offers both effective exercise and stress management, addressing two of the leading risk factors for high blood pressure.

Baxter will review the most relevant research on how yoga tools can help support healthy blood pressure and in some cases bring high blood pressure down towards normal. He then goes more deeply into the specific tools and practices you can bring into your home practice keep you blood pressure balanced.

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
