Yoga for Pelvic Floor Health: Yoga Practices to Alleviate Common Pelvic Floor Problems

Feb 21 & 21
8:00 pm -
3 Hours

Scientifically proven methods with two studies from UCSF.

Proper strengthening and stabilizing of the pelvic floor help to create the correct foundation for each movement in the body. This is the true meaning of “core work.” Whether you experience any of these conditions or are just plain curious about this region of the body, this workshop is for you:

  • pelvic pain

  • lower back, hip, or groin problems

  • discomfort during sex or while using tampons

  • leak when laughing or sneezing

  • have to go the bathroom too often

  • prolapsed pelvic organs

In this workshop, we will locate, assess, soften, stretch, strengthen and exercise the muscle groups of the pelvic floor and their crucial role in abdominal health.

  • Part one of the workshop will begin with an anatomy lecture, followed by subtle experiential movements to awaken your understanding of this often ignored area and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana. Next, we will do a practice geared toward pelvic pain and minor adjustments that can be made when working on releasing tight muscles.

  • Part two of the workshop will focus more on incontinence issues and how to engage under active muscles. Also, how specific asana and breath work address the two types of pelvic floors.

In each yoga practice, you will learn proper pelvic floor engagement. And how specific asana and breath work address the two types of pelvic floors.

This workshop qualifies for continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance and IAYT.

Quote from an article on the incontinence study here.

Dr. Huang (lead researcher) and her colleagues recruited 20 women from the Bay Area who were 40 years and older and who suffered from urinary incontinence daily. Half were randomly assigned to participate in a six-week yoga therapy program, and the other half were not. The women who participated in the yoga program experienced an overall 70 percent improvement – or reduction – in the frequency of their urine leakage compared to the baseline. The control group – or the group that did not start yoga therapy – only had a 13 percent improvement.

You will get access to the recordings of all webinar sessions – both MP3 (downloadable) and MP4 (streaming online), enabling you to go back and listen to the workshop as many times as you like.
  • Transcripts of All Sessions: Ever wanted to refer to a certain part of a course? Even the best note-takers miss a point every so often. With the transcripts of the webinar sessions, you can go back and refer to particularly important passages or clarify sections you were in doubt about.

I wanted to expand on my thank you. Yoga U Online has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I moved from a yoga mecca to a yoga desert. Instead of having my choice of teachers and styles and special workshops, I now have to travel an hour to take a class. The excellent teachers and interesting topics at Yoga U Online have kept me moving ahead in my practice. I am grateful for all the wonderful yoga you bring to me. Thank you.
Your website is a blessing to guide me deeper into my personal practice and my teaching practice.
My students will appreciate all the gems I've picked up from your teachers.Thank you so much!
